Fishing Report 17th January, 2012

Last Saturday, Reef fishing charter. The day started outpretty cool for this time of the year, but we still had a great morning.The boys caught a good box of fish, mowies, snapper, pigfish and flathead.

Sunday,we were out Marlin fishing with a mixed charter, a couplefrom Wales and three guys from Canberra. We left the marina earlyand were in 70 fathoms by 7.30am. We spotted some bait on the sounder andthere were reports of a few Marlin in the area, caught and lost. At about10.30 am we had a Marlin following our teaser and Foxy the deckie fed out alive slimie (Mackrel) and the marlin took the bait. Jason the Welshmanfought the Marlin for about 20 min before we tagged and released it.

Happy New year to all my readers.

Looks like the marlin season has started, with some sighting of marlin as well as some being caught on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They were all over the place, Friday they were spotted south of Batemans Bay, Saturday North and Sunday South again. Spotted a few bait balls with plenty of Marlin showing up on Saturday as well as some Dolphin fish.

Looking forward to some great Marlin fishing this season.

Reef fishing was average. Not many boats were out early on New Years day, could be due to a few hangovers. But we started our day at 6 am, looking for a good start to the new year, very foggy morning crossing the bar, but beautiful clear sky once near Snapper Island, saw a few whales, dolphins, seals and had a few marlin up, had a nibble but no tags.

Then late in the afternoon we caught five nice Kingfish, on our way in, when we spotted a few birds. Weighing from 5 to 7 Kilos, between 700-900mm in length, much fun was had bringing them in.

Another great day fishing

Started off a little overcast at 7am, when we crossed the bar. Light North West breeze and a pretty flat ocean. We ventured out to about 35 fathoms and started our day fishing. Spotted some whales heading south on our way out and when we came home.
The catch of the day was not as good a yesterday but we still caught a good box of fish, not allot of orther fish were caught thaat day.

Forecast for today was average, and the weather man got it right again (sure did not). The boys had a great day out, catching around 35 fish. A mixed bag, 24 Mowie biggest around 2.5 kg, 3 Snapper biggest around 1.5-2kg, Flathead at about 45-60cm long, nanygi, sgt baker, pigfish, piuke and red rockie.
The boys were pretty happy with that and will certainly come back to have another go.

Saturday 26th Feb, charter Port Stephens

As predicted a good day again for the fishing, what a beautiful area to fish in. We caught another marlin today, this time a 80kg striped marlin. Lost a marlin and had one checking out the lures. Then a whaler shark of about 100kg was caught as well. We spotted a large number of dolphins as well as some whales, certainly the place to be right now.

Friday morning charter. What a great day, we caught 3 black marlin weighing between 80kg and 120kg. One each, couldn't ask for more then that. As predicted thefishing is hotting up in Port Stephens. With the tournaments running for the next 2 weekends, should make for an interesting couple of weeks. Good luck to all who is competing.

Port Stephens February 2011

A week long trip to Port Stephens with the boat, stopped at some nice places on the way and I had to spend a few days, due to bad weather, in Broken Bay.
Once there, the weather fined up a little and the Marlin were putting on a good show, and plenty were caught inside the shelf in the past week.
I took out a charter on the weekend and we caught ourselves three yellow fin tuna weighing between 60-70kg. Lots of bait around and more coming in and there are a good few marlin out there to be caught. Looking good for the fishing for the next few weeks at Port Stephens.

The fishing is hotting up, with lots of marlin seen and caught. The water temp is anywhere between 22-24 degrees. There has been some nice mahi mahi caught, over 15 kg. The reef fishing has improved also, with nice snapper, morwongs and pigfish to be got.

February I will be off to Port Stephens with my boat, where I have charters booked, both for competitive fishing and pleasure fishing. Lots of marlin has been seen and I will expect that there will be lots more to be caught. I will be available for bookings.

One week before the Tolgate tournament. What a miserable day to go out, pouring rain and sloppy sea conditions, not a good start.
Got out to 70 fathoms and we put ourt baits in the water, there were the seals and a few birds. A short time late the rigger pulled out of the peg and Marg was hooked up to her very first marlin. After 20 minutes of hard work Foxy was able to grab the leader, while Jeff placed a tag in the 80kilos striped marlin's shoulder.

We worked the area for the rest of the day, but the bait that had been there in the previous days had moved on. That was all the excitement for the day. Better luck next weekend.

Friday 7th Jan 2010 gamefishing in Batemans Bay

Finally the water is getting up to scratch, 22 degrees Celsius. Nice bit of bait around. A few marlin have been tagged and lost. A good start to the Marlin season in the Bay. Just in time for the Tollgate Tournament on next weekend. Can't wait.

Game fishing charter with Dennis, Sally and Eyal, Tuesday 5th

What a day, we left the marina at around 7, it was overcast and about 1.5 metre south east seas. Started fishing in 70 fathoms, trolled out over the shelf towards Tuross, NSW.

Fishing was a little slow with not much bait around, then a little after lunch we had a Hammerhead shark checking out our teasers, Foxy threw in a live stripey and the Hammerhead pounced on it. After 40 minutes on 24 kilo Dennis had the shark to the boat, where Foxy released the three metre shark boat side. Then a short time later we were jigging bait on a bait school and a 2.5 meter Mako shark followed the bait jig up and tried to attack everything else that was still in the water including the teasers. We pitched a live stripey to the Mako who immediately ate it and we were hooked up. At the end of the day a good time was had by all.

Reef fishing

I did a couple of reef fishing charters since Christmas. Fishing was pretty good, came back with a full box of fish. Some snapper, morwong and pig fish just some of the fish we caught. The guys were fairly happy that they could take home some fish for dinner that night.

Hope to bring you some more great fishing news soon.

Sunday 21st November Fishing Charter

Another perfect day in Batemans Bay. We met Wallace and five of his mates from Canberra, early in the morning, at the marina.

We fished east of the Bay in 22 degree water, and there was a lot of striped tuna and bonito about. About midday we came accross a pod of whales and dolphins, where the long corner bibless minnow was inhaled by a nice 30KG Yelllowfin tuna. The boys were pretty happy with that.

There were a couple of marlin lost over the weekend by other boats.

With the warmer water pushing down the coast we are expecting the fishing to improve over the coming weeks

Day out fishing with some friends

We left the Marina for a reef fishing trip up to Durras. There was Joy, Michael, Marg and myself on board. It was a perfect morning. We saw a whale off North Head as well as some dolphins. The fishing was a little slow but we still managed to catch a couple of nice snapper, travalley etc. Joy caught her first fish ever, a little beauty of a snapper.

I woke up to a miserable day, over cast, slight easterly breeze, and I had a charter booked.

The guys turned up and we left the marina at 6 am. We went out to 38 fathoms and started our drift for our reef fishing trip. It was miserable and drizzly rain, 15 knots of SW winds. We did no good on this drift so we moved to one of our other marks and caught some Snapper and Morwong. We had a few spot changes throughout the morning but fishing was sluggish, but at the end of the morning the guys took home a reasonable feed of fish. So all in all we had a successful ½ day out. There was a bonus for us all, when we sighted some whales, mother and calf, with the calf putting on a good arial show. We are now waiting for the albacore to turn up any day.

Hi, welcome to Aspro game fishing Charters, my world of fishing and my very first blog. I am based in beautiful Batemans Bay, part of the Eurobodalla shire on the south coast of New South Wales.

I enjoy going out on Aspro, which is a 40ft Black Watch cruiser. We go out for half day reef fishing or a full day game fishing. I supply all your needs, rods and bait, expert advice from the friendly crew, as well as morning tea, lunch and soft drinks. Marlin and tuna are our just some of the fish we aim to catch on a full day game fishing trip. Reef fishing is when we catch some of the smaller fish, snapper, morwong and flathead etc.

Sometimes we are lucky and see the odd whale, dolphin, shark or seal. That is just a bonus.
